HR News You Can Use

Year-End Payroll Reminders

The end of the year is fast approaching which means there are some year-end payroll items that need your attention:

Wellness Reimbursements: NCMIC will reimburse gym memberships for those who attend, on average, 12 times per month over a year’s time. The reimbursement period is December 2022–November 2023. If you want to be reimbursed, please have proof of attendance and/or receipts to Molly O’Neill by Monday, Dec. 4. You will see the reimbursement amount on your Friday, Dec. 15 pay.

2023 Benefit Time Payout: New to NCMIC’s benefit time policy this year, employees can get paid out up to a maximum of 38.75 hours (5 days). Please have all your scheduled benefit time for 2023 entered in UltiPro and approved by your manager by the end of business Monday, Dec. 4. If you will have time that will be paid out there is no action needed. The payout will show on your Friday, Dec. 15 pay.

2023 Carry Over Benefit Time: You are allowed to carry over up to 15.5 hours (2 days) in lieu of having them paid out. The carry over amount does not have to be in full day increments, however, it does need to be in quarter hour increments (ex. 4.25 hours, 2.5 hours). The carry over time must be used by Wednesday, March 15, 2024, or it will be forfeited.

Also, all employees must complete the survey below by Monday, Dec. 4. Any unused, non-carry over benefit time will be paid (max of 38.75 hours) on Friday, Dec. 15.

Cold, Flu & COVID Reminders

As the cold and flu season approaches, we want to remind everyone to take proactive steps to stay healthy and maintain a productive work environment.

During this time of year, cold, flu and COVID tend to be more prevalent, and we can all play a role in minimizing their impact on our workplace.

Please see below for some practical tips to help prevent the spread of these types of viruses:

  • Wash your hands frequently with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.

  • Use hand sanitizer.

  • Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue or your elbow when coughing or sneezing.

  • Please, stay home if you are feeling unwell. It is important to stay home to prevent the spread of illness.

  • Notify your manager as soon as possible if you will be working from home and or are unable to work.

A reminder: If you test positive for COVID-19, you must stay home for at least five days and isolate from others. Employees can return to work after those five days if they are symptom free. A negative test is not required to return to work, but we highly encourage wearing a mask for an additional five days once you return.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact HR.

AAMI’s Traveling Hip Hop Exhibit Comes to NCMIC

To celebrate National Hip Hop History Month, NCMIC’s DEI Committee hosted a traveling exhibit, Behind the Beat, an exploration of the development of African American music from its roots in Africa to modern day hip-hop.

The exhibit came to NCMIC from the African American Museum of Iowa (AAMI), the only museum devoted to preserving, exhibiting, and teaching African American African American heritage in Iowa. The AAMI offers traveling exhibits that can be displayed in offices, libraries, classrooms etc. with the vision of building a community that fosters a greater understanding and appreciation of Iowa’s African American history and culture.

Carolers Wanted!

The NCMIC Carolers, lead by Andy Pratt, made the rounds to several nursing homes in 2022 singing Christmas carols for the residents.

After a two-year break due to COVID, the NCMIC Christmas Carolers were back at it just in time for the 2022 Christmas holiday. This year, they’re doing it again! If you like to sing and can carry a tune (or even if you can’t), join your fellow NCMICers on Tuesday, Dec. 19 as they visit area nursing homes to spread some Christmas cheer. If you’re interested, contact Andy Pratt. Please note that if you haven’t yet taken your volunteer day off, you could use it for caroling.
