NCMIC’S BATTLE OF THE ‘BURBS BRINGS THE HEAT

With temps reaching the upper 90s, NCMIC’s 2022 Battle of the ‘Burbs run—held Saturday, Aug. 6 on the NCMIC campus—was a scorching success! More than $43,000 was raised to support local non-profits and community betterment efforts for the Clive, Johnston, Urbandale, Waukee and West Des Moines suburbs in this year’s Battle of the ‘Burbs race.

The city of Clive managed to snatch the championship belt back from rival suburb West Des Moines by having the most runners turn out for their community.

“We can confidently say that this year’s Battle of the ‘Burbs was not only hot, it was a hit!” said NCMIC CEO Mike McCoy. “The race is not just fun for runners, volunteers and spectators, it’s for a great cause, raising tens of thousands of dollars for the surrounding suburbs and their efforts to better serve non-profits and their communities. It continues to get better and better every year and we can’t wait to see how it grows in 2023.”

Battle of the ’Burbs pits five Des Moines suburbs against one another in a competition to earn support for their community’s betterment efforts. The cities each sponsor the 10K, 5K and Kids Fun Run event with runners designating one city to run for (they can also support all five). Sponsorship dollars raised, in addition to the registration fees, support local nonprofits and other community projects.

The 2022 Battle of the ‘Burbs run set a record with 548 runners participating in the races 5K, 10K and Kids Fun Run combined. NCMIC also hosted more than 70 volunteers who helped plan and execute this wonderful community event.

Mark your calendars! Next year’s Battle of the ’Burbs will be held Saturday, Aug. 5, 2023.
